Muslims everywhere, near and far
Come together during Ramadan
To strengthen their bonds
From sunrise to sunset, suhoor until iftar
They abstain from intercourse, eating and drinking
Learning self-restraint and what the poor are feeling
Allah (swt) blessings are abundant during this month
He is forgiving those who pray to him
He is rewarding those who worship him
It is almost like starting with a clean record
As sins are wiped away and intentions are renewed,
A journey to connect with Allah (swt) is activated
Muslims have no fear as shaitaan is locked up
Their temptations are locked up as well
Impatience and anger are removed
Tolerance and compassion are inserted
Alhamdulillah and Subhan Allah flow from the lips of the followers
While backbiting, slandering and lying are nowhere to be seen
The hearts of the believers are being cleansed
Just as their bodies are whilst performing ablution
When sunset arrives and the adhan is read, Muslims gather together
Dates, milk, fruit and samosas decorate their plates
The day’s fast is broken and hunger subsides.
They are grateful for the food that Allah (swt) has given them
The Ummah heads to the masjid for prayer
Ears are listening attentively to the recitation of the Qur’an
Each person is focused on their own prayer
But the ummah is united; they stand together
On the night of Laylatul-Qadr,
Favors are granted, wishes are fulfilled
The angels sprinkle glad tidings all over
With each dua and good deed brings more reward than we know
After a month of worship, Muslims rejoice in celebration
A culmination of a month’s worth of Allah’s (swt) blessings and mercy
Eid-al-fitr is a day of prayer, gift-giving and well-wishing
Eleven more months until Ramadan circles around again.
